National Knowledge Week for Asthma

National Knowledge Week for Asthma
22 – 26 May 2006

Please note that information will not be live until 22 May 2006

The National Knowledge Week for Asthma is being produced by the National Library for Health (NLH) Respiratory Specialist Library. It will provide health professionals working in respiratory healthcare and medicine with the latest evidence and information on a number of topics within the field of asthma.

Working with a wide range of stakeholders, a series of articles have been written by experts from all fields of respiratory healthcare. The topics include:

What’s new in asthma?
The impact of the SIGN/BTS guidelines on asthma management
Asthma inhaler devices
The role of respiratory function laboratories in asthma
Allergic rhinitis and asthma
The management of asthma in primary care
Physiotherapy practice and asthma

To support these articles links have been provided to recently published guidelines and systematic reviews relating to them, and quality patient information materials.

Dr Mark Everard, Clinical Lead for the Respiratory Specialist Library said:

“The NLH Respiratory Specialist Library is has chosen to focus its first Knowledge Week on asthma since this remains a major cause of morbidity in both children and adults. Epidemiological data continues to highlight the huge impact this disease has on the population of this country. Helping to focus the attention of the public, politicians and health care professionals on the challenges posed by this disease may help improve the quality of life of many of the millions of affected individuals. This and subsequent knowledge weeks will form part of the Specialist Library’s strategy to provide the best possible information that can be used to support health care workers and their patients.”

Guidance on copyright

I have now received guidance from Ben Toth, which is available at: http://www.library.nhs.uk/forlibrarians/copyright

Over the last few days librarians have raised questions that are not completely covered in Ben’s guidance. I have uploaded this paper too, and will add the answers as I receive them.

If there are any further question, please send them to me.

Under library privilage you are able to copy one article from one issue, but are required to have a form signed by the requester. Examples of forms are at http://www.cilip.org.uk/professionalguidance/copyright/formsandposters

Users are able to copy for themselves under fair dealing. But you must not advise them on what is commercial and what is not.

Hope this helps in the interim.
