CPD needs of library staff - your comments

If you can't make it to one of the workshops on CPD needs (see earlier post from 11 Nov), you can still contribute your views on training and development. The research team from Aberystwyth has prepared a set of questions which you can respond to. For more information, please email.

User needs study

Following a competitive tender, TFPL have been commissioned to run a user needs study for NLH. They have started by gathering information needs and usage studies - thanks to librarians who responded. The next stage is to talk to NHS staff directly. A pilot will start shortly, based in 3 SHAs around the country, probably focusing on managers and healthcare assistants. Two librarians joined the Project Group this week: Gwen Giles from the Good Hope Hospital NHS Trust and Liz Osborne from Redbridge PCT.

New FOLIO modules

3 new modules are scheduled for early 2005: Planning and Conducting Information Needs Analyses in January; Designing and Delivering Information Skills Training Courses in February; and Making your case successfully (dates to be confirmed). For more information, click here.

RSS

RSS is going to be a big part of the National Library for Health and it is good to see a growing range of health related websites with RSS feeds. Some of them are listed here. There are lots of discussions going on and there will be updates as new services come on stream. This week saw the latest meeting of the Primary Care Current Awareness Service group - contact Sue Lacey Bryant here.

NLH portal consultation

The LKDN Informatics Group wants your views and ideas. Last week the first phase of the NLH website was launched. The main development phase – including development of options for localisation and personalisation - is planned for April-June 2005. A consultation paper (which you can obtain through your SHA library lead) has been developed. You're invited to read, add views and comments, and indicate priorities - deadline for responses is Friday 7/1/05.
