Event on learning and development

NLH commissioned a study into learning and development needs of library staff. The study has been carried out by Christine Urquhart and colleagues at University of Wales Aberystwyth and will report shortly. The report will be shared online on the NLH website. To mark the final report of the study and to talk about how we take forward some of the recommendations, NLH is running an event on 5 May. The venue is yet to be confirmed but it will be in Birmingham. The day will start at around 10.30-11.00 and finish at 3.00. The day will include a presentation from Christine, group discussion, panel discussion and of course, lunch! If you're interested in attending, please can you email alison.turner@nhsia.nhs.uk.

Collaboration on national directory

The HLG, RCN and National Library for Health (NLH) have agreed to collaborate on building a new, single, online directory of library services, capable of being updated by individual libraries or library networks on an ongoing basis. More information at http://www.library.nhs.uk/forLibrarians/.

A-Z Journals List

The national core content team are considering purchasing access to an A-Z service for the electronic journals. The current service (hosted by NeLH) is put together by the Core Content team every month using arcane potions and strange symbols (otherwise known as Tea and HTML).

The problem with this static list is that is only shows the national journals and does not reflect all the millions spent on journals by local NHS libraries and SHAs. Therefore we are finding out how much a service would cost that will show end users which journals are available to them (irrespective of their location).

Hopefully we should have more information if we can go ahead with this after the next Core Content meeting in May
